Privacy Policy

Me in Japan (meinjapan.com) is operated by Excellence Agency ("we"). This page explains what personal data we process when you use the site, why, and what your choices are.
What we collect
- Account data. When you sign in with Google, Microsoft or Apple we receive your e-mail address, your name and a provider user ID. We store these to recognise you and to link your purchase to your account. We never see your password.
- Purchase data. Purchases are made on booknow.one, which handles payment, invoicing and refunds under its own privacy policy. booknow.one sends us the buyer e-mail, name, order number and product so we can grant access. We do not receive card or bank details.
- Itineraries. If you use the itinerary planner, we store the trip details you enter (dates, cities, party size, budget, interests, notes) and the generated plan, so you can reopen and share it. To generate a plan, your trip details are sent to Anthropic's Claude API (our AI provider); no account data is sent with them.
- Usage data. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not track you across sites. Our hosting (Netlify) and database (Supabase) keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser, time) for security and debugging.
- Site steps. To learn which parts of the site help people (for example: a preview tab was opened, the buy button or a shared itinerary was clicked, a calendar was added), we count these steps. Each count holds only the step, the page path, the language, where the visit came from (for example Instagram, Google or a shared link) and a random number stored in your browser that is replaced every 90 days. It holds no name, e-mail, account ID or IP address and is never linked to your account. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", nothing is counted.
Why we process it
- To provide access to the guides and the planner you purchased (performance of a contract).
- To prevent abuse: for example, the planner is limited to three itineraries per account.
- To answer your questions when you contact us.
- To improve the site from anonymous counts of site steps (legitimate interest).
Venue suggestions
If you suggest a venue, we store the text you type (venue name, city, note, optional link), your account ID and the time, so the editor can review it. Suggestions are reviewed by a person before anything is published; an edited, translated version may appear in the guides and the planner. We keep declined suggestions for up to 90 days.
Cookies and storage
We use a session cookie and browser storage only to keep you signed in, remember your language, cache your session, keep copies of your itineraries and opened guides for use without internet, and hold the random number and visit source described under "Site steps". Signing out removes the saved copies. We do not use advertising cookies.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site: Supabase (authentication and database, EU region), Netlify (hosting), Cloudflare (analytics), Anthropic (AI generation of itineraries), Resend (transactional e-mail) and booknow.one (purchases). We do not sell personal data.
If you share an itinerary link, anyone with the link can view that itinerary (not your account). You can turn sharing off at any time; shared links expire 60 days after the trip.
Retention
Account and purchase records are kept while your access is active. Itineraries you delete are wiped immediately (only a count remains for the per-account limit). You can ask us to delete your account and all data at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. Write to hello@booknow.one.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
